How do I set up a new email account?
First of all, you will need to notify us of the email address you would like to have.  We also need to know whether you intend to set this email account up on your email software (Outlook Express, Outlook etc) or whether you want it forwarded on to another existing address.

Once the account is set up, we will notify you and you can then set up the new account in your email software.  You can find the following tutorials online, or you can give us a call and we can talk you through it.

I can receive emails, but I can’t send them, why?
This may be because of two things:

(firstly, please ensure that you are using smtp.[mydomain.com] in your Email Accounts Setup in your Email program):

1.Our SMTP mail servers (to improve on security) require that you provide your pop3 username and password when you pass mail through it.

This stops people spamming through your smtp account.

Unfortunately, this means that Outlook Express (and all other Microsoft email clients) don’t understand this very well.

You need to tell Outlook Express / Outlook to Send outgoing mail using authentication.

You can switch this option on in the Tools > Accounts > Mail > Properties > Servers > [Outgoing Mail] > My Server Requires Authentication.

2.A lot of ISPs are starting to do something called Transparent Proxying.

Amongst other things, this will ensure that you can only send mail through your ISPs own mail server, on port 25.

However, we introduced a workaround for this, using port 250.

If your ISP is NTL, FreeServe, World Online, AOL (and some others) then this may be the case with you.

To change the port number from port 25 to 250 in Outlook Express, go to the Tools Menu, Click on Accounts > Mail > Properties > Advanced > Outgoing Mail / SMTP, Change the number in the text box from 25 to read 250.

If this does not resolve the problem then please contact us on 01825 760909.

Is there a limit to the number of email accounts I can have?
Our standard hosting package includes 5 email accounts, but if you would like to add more, please let us know and we can add these for you for a small fee.

Can I access my email when I’m travelling?
If you have access to the internet through another computer, you can access your email via WebMail, a web-based interface that allows you to send and receive emails.

You will need to go to the WebMail control panel and log in using your email settings.  More details can be found on the Control Panel page of this site.

How can I reduce the amount of Spam I receive?
We can set up Spam filtering on your email accounts which will mark any messages considered to be Spam with the prefix *****SPAM*****.  You can then set up rules within your email software to automatically delete or divert any messages marked in this way.

There is more information about setting up message rules for Outlook Express on the Microsoft web site.

Hosting

How do I access my web site statistics?
We are able to provide access to statistics about visitors to your web site as part of our standard hosting package.  If you would like to have access to the Web Statistics Control Panel, please email us or call us on 01825 760909 and we will create a username and password for you.  There is more information about accessing web site statistics on this web site.

Can I have more than one domain name pointing to the same web site?
You can point any number of domain names to a certain place, meaning you could have multiple domain names all directing someone to the same web site.  We have set this up for a number of our clients – please let us know if you would like us to do it for you.

Web sites

How do I update my web site?
There are effectively two ways to update your web site; firstly, you can tell us what you want to change on the site (preferably by email), and we will change it for you and charge you our standard hourly rate of £30 to do so.  Alternatively, you could do it yourselves using one of our many content management systems.

Details of content management and the modules available are listed in the web development section of this web site.

How can I improve my search engine ranking?
Having a web site doesn’t guarantee anyone will visit unless they are able to find you.  A large percentage of visitors use search engines to find what they are looking for.  Search engines will display web sites that match the search phrase, but have a ranking system to determine who appears at the top of the list for competitive phrases.

There are certain things that can be done to improve where your web site appears on the lists, and we would be more than happy to talk to you about getting more visitors to your web site.  Further information can be found at Internet marketing.
